Winifred "Wini" Thomassen Obituary (1919

Winifred "Wini" Thomassen, 98 of Bloomington passed away at 3:29 PM on Monday November 13, 2017 at her residence. Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home in Bloomington is handling arrangements. Winifred was born July 31, 1919 in Bloomington, the fourth daughter of Herman and Winifred Thomassen. She attended grade school and high school locally and received a Bachelor's degree in Education from Illinois State Normal University in 1941. She taught two years in Cooksville, Illinois in the High School. From 1943 to 1987 Wini was employed by Community High School District 94 in West Chicago as a teacher, Dean of Girls, Administrative Assistant and her last eleven years as Registrar. She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Verna Mae Thomassen, Dorothy Ryburn, Jean Smith and Connie Tompkins and a nephew Scott Ryburn. Survivors include nine nieces and nephews, fifteen great nieces and nephews and fifteen great-great nieces and nephews. She considered all of them her "Kids" and it was a delight to her when they referred to her as their "other mother" It was her special joy to keep up a "snail mail" correspondence with each of them. She was a lifelong member of Second Presbyterian Church in Bloomington. Memorial contributions may be made to her church or to Home Sweet Home Mission, or Salvation Army. Winifred's final request was to enjoy a Dairy Queen Blizzard in her memory.
