William J. Slingsby

William J. "Bill" Slingsby, 78, of Bloomington, passed away at 3:40 a.m. on Friday, July 19, 2019 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.

His memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington. Cremation rites have been accorded.

The family has requested that no flowers be sent, in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Mary's School or Central Catholic High School, both of Bloomington or a charity of the donor's choice. (FOR OTTAWA PAPER: Marquette Academy, Ottawa or a charity of the donor's choice)

He was born April 17, 1941 in Ottawa, son of Emmett J. and Margaret Twohey Slingsby. He married Sandra J. Carr on June 20, 1964 in Ottawa.

Surviving are his wife, Sandy, of Bloomington; one brother, Emmett (Janet) Slingsby of Riverton; one sister, Karin (Joseph) Amodea of Green Valley, AZ; three nephews and two nieces.

Bill graduated from Marquette High School and attended Tri State University in Angola, IN.

He retired as a construction superintendent, where he worked on roads, highways and interstates.

Bill enjoyed farming, gardening, lawn work, the outdoors and vacationing at Long Boat Key, FL. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Bloomington Country Club. He is also a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bloomington.
