William L. Hall

–

Bloomington, Illinois

William “Bill” Hall, age 80, of Normal, Illinois, was welcomed into Heaven by his parents, siblings, and his beloved son, Tim, on January 15, 2026. On Christmas Eve, Bill learned that his cancer had returned, stage four and very aggressive. He faced this news with quiet strength and grace.

Bill was born on February 2, 1945, in Decatur, Illinois, to Claude and Edna (Frantz) Hall. He grew up in and around Decatur alongside his siblings John (Fran), Carroll (Dee), Clyde, Marilyn Kuehl, and Nancy (Andy) Mullins. Throughout his life, Bill maintained close ties with his nieces, whom he spoke of fondly and visited whenever the opportunity arose.

Right out of high school, Bill joined the United States Army, serving overseas during the early years of the Vietnam War. After completing his service, he spent a short time in Colorado living with his brother, John, before eventually settling in Bloomington, Illinois. It was there that Bill met and married Vicki Kline, in 1970. Together they welcomed three children: Timothy, Jennifer, and Stephan (Elizabeth). Bill and Vicki were married for more than 50 years, divorcing later in life. He remained deeply appreciative of her continued support and willingness to help him up until the very end.

Bill retired from Eureka Williams, where he worked for many years as a plater. To his children, his work seemed almost magical, as though he could turn pennies into gold. Retirement, however, did not suit him for long. Bill soon found himself behind the wheel, taking up what became a hobby of sorts as a long-haul truck driver. He traveled the country in an 18-wheeler, driving routes as far as New York City.

Bill was a gifted storyteller. When he began with, “Let me tell you something,” you knew you were in for a treat. Whether his stories were true, embellished, or a perfect blend of the two was often unclear, but they were always delivered with humor and heart, leaving everyone smiling.
For the past 15 years, Bill had the extraordinary opportunity to live with his children. During that time, he found great joy in watching his grandchildren, Andrew, Ryan, Aaron, and Jeremiah, grow up. He attended school functions and sporting events, and shared in the simple, everyday moments of family life that meant so much to him.

Bill will be remembered for his devotion to family, his strong work ethic, his sense of humor, and the stories that will continue to be told for generations. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will live on in all who knew him.
