Pana, Illinois

William Dale "Dale" Craig, Sr., age 77, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2026, at Pana Health &Rehab Center, in Pana, Illinois. Born on January 14, 1949, in Baltimore, Maryland, Dale lived a life full of adventure, dedication, and love for his family and friends.
Dale spent his early years in Baltimore and was raised in the Catholic faith, receiving his First Communion and Confirmation there. He later attended Sheridan High School in Colorado before embarking on a career that encompassed his hardworking spirit and passion for the open road. As an over-the-road truck driver and proud member of the Teamsters Union, Dale developed an encyclopedic knowledge of the best truck stops along the West Coast, often recalling them by mile marker with remarkable precision.
In addition to his trucking career, Dale served as a volunteer fireman in both Sheridan, Colorado, and Ephrata, Washington. His commitment to helping others reflected his generous nature and willingness to serve his community.
Dale’s zest for life extended beyond work. He was an avid figure-eight racer who thrived on the thrill of competition. A die-hard Denver Broncos fan, he rarely missed a game and could often be found cheering passionately for his team. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing—activities that allowed him to connect with nature—and cherished time spent with family. Whether watching NASCAR races or WWE wrestling matches or relaxing outdoors in the sunshine surrounded by loved ones, Dale’s infectious smile and fun-loving personality brought joy to those around him.
Family was at the heart of Dale’s life. He is survived by his siblings James, Sharon, and Robert; his ex-wife Sue; his children Terrie (Billy), Bill (Amanda), and James (Jessica); as well as numerous grandchildren: Billy, Thomas, Jojo, April, Justin (Audrey), Randy, Ocean (Rex), Dillon (Kayla), Levi (Emily), Carter, and Stormy. Dale also leaves behind great-grandchildren Audrey, Jaxon, Peyton, Zavrina, Oakleigh, Zayden, Kynlee, and Lucas. His legacy lives on through each of them.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents James and Matilda Craig of Englewood, Colorado; his brother Grant Craig of Buena Vista, Colorado; his sister-in-law Linda Craig of Aurora, Colorado; and his nephew Willis Oliver of Fairbury, Nebraska.
Those who knew Dale will remember him as a flirtatious yet kind-hearted man who always had a smile on his face. He found happiness in simple pleasures—sitting outside under the sun or sharing laughter with family and friends. His love for life was contagious.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pana Health and Rehab Center Activities Department in honor of Dale’s memory.
May William Dale "Dale" Craig Sr.’s memory bring comfort to all who knew him. A Celebration of Life will be held on July 11, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 09:00 PM at the home of Jim and Jessica Craig 8 Mara Lane, Taylorville, Il. Prayer at 1pm provided by Mark Knott. All friends and family welcome.
