Wanda F. Carney Obituary (1940

Wanda F. Carney, 84, of Virden, passed away peacefully, Sunday, March 30, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 8, 1940, in Litchfield. She married Warren G. Carney on July 19, 1958, and celebrated 51 years of marriage before his passing on December 3, 2009. Wanda was an active member of the Virden First United Methodist Church for greater than 50 years. During that time she could be found making banners for the church sanctuary, floral arrangements for the alter, Chrisman tree ornaments, and bows for all occasions. Wanda was often found in the church kitchen preparing food for church dinners, bake sales, and various other events. She participated in UMW, SWAT, and many other committees over the years. The annual fall sale was very dear to her heart for the community outreach provided to those in need. Aside from being a homemaker and farmer’s wife, Wanda held many other jobs. She did door to door sales for Tupperware and Avon. Wanda shared in a catering business with close friends. She worked as a hostess at the tea room in Virden. She made floral arrangements at The Wildflower Patch. Wanda worked in her own business Andrea’s Keepsakes, and later started Enchanted Attic where she held multiple booths at Nickorbob's Craft Mall selling everything from doilies, kitchen gadgets, jellies and teas, cookbooks. You name it and Wanda probably sold it at one time or another. She finally retired in 2017 at the young age of 77. Wanda loved watching the birds feed through her sunroom windows. She loved camping, whether in the fifth wheel motor home she and Warren shared or from a tent in the backyard. She was an amazing cook. She loved antiquing and her weekly lunches with friends. (And don’t forget the weekly hair appointments.) Most of all Wanda loved her family (especially her grandchildren) and friends. She was the recipient of numerous acts of kindness from both those she did and did not know. She was always looking out for those less fortunate. Wanda was a sweet and kind soul who will be missed dearly by everyone whose life she touched. Wanda is survived by her children, Jennifer Siemianowski, Jill Carney, and Jeff Carney; grandchildren Danielle (Bret) Berta, Joe Siemianowski, Tyler Hampleman, Ben Carney, Nicholas Carney, Heather (Jason) Kinsland and bonus grandchildren, Amy & Matt Box; great grandchildren Mariah Bowen, Cadeyn, Marissa and Elaina Box, brother Mark Gram. In addition to her loving husband, Warren, she was preceded in death by her sister Betty McMann, son-in-law Bob Siemianowski and daughter-in-law Deborah Carney. Wanda’s family will be hosting a visitation from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at the Virden First United Methodist Church, followed immediately by celebration of her life with Pastor Mark Doane officiating.
