Verdelle Irene Lenegar Obituary (1931

Verdelle Irene Lenegar, 94 of Bloomington passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at OSF St. Joseph Hospital in Bloomington, Illinois. She was born on July 23, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois to George and Evelyn (Szczepanski) Krejcik. On August 25, 1951 she married Melvin Schwartz of Chicago, Illinois. After 40 years of marriage, he passed away in 1992. She then married John Lenegar of Hoffman Estates, Illinois in 1995. He passed in 2008. Verdelle is survived by her daughter Judith (Gary) Krautwurst of Bloomington, Illinois, 5 grandchildren: Karen (Patrick) Krautwurst of Normal, Illinois, Kimberly Krautwurst of Cortland, Illinois, Erik Krautwurst of Bloomington, Illinois, Kevin (Ashley) Schwartz of Volo, Illinois, Tiffany (Ivan) Perez of Charles Town, West Virginia, 2 great-grandchildren: Harper Schwartz and Emily Perez, and her sister Evelyn Fischrup of Eugene, Oregon. She also leaves behind numerous devoted nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands and her son James Schwartz. Verdelle was a 1948 graduate of Farragut High School in Chicago, Illinois, and went on to work as the Registrar of Schaumburg High School in Schaumburg, Illinois. In that role she helped to start an early education program in the district because she wanted children to get the earliest possible start on their learning journey. She was an enormous Chicago Cubs fan, and had a Cubs TV schedule within reach of her recliner at all times to make sure she never missed a game. She was very artistic and made dozens of ceramics, even taking a regular class with her daughter Judy for several years. Many of her creations now live in her loved ones’ homes. She also made beautifully designed quilts for her children and grandchildren, which still cover their beds today. She never met a Bingo card she couldn’t dominate and thrilled in winning small prizes for her grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling, reading books, playing cards, and keeping her keen mind sharp as a tack by working on crossword puzzles. Though her humor, kindness, and generous spirit will be missed by many, we are grateful for the time we had with her and keep close to heart Psalm 116:15 - Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. Cremation rites have been accorded and a celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 30 at 4:30 PM with visitation beginning at 3:00 PM until the time of service at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home in Bloomington.
