Velma Jean Dykes Drummond Obituary (1929 - 2024)

Velma Jean (Fetter) Dykes Drummond, age 94, of Forrest, IL, formerly of Boonville, IN, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Monday, April 29, 2024, at 9:18 a.m. at their residence. Cremation rites have been accorded. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Ellis Cemetery, located at 793 IN 261, Boonville, IN, 47610, with Rev. Ken Slater officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Velma’s memory may be made to the Mt. Olive Church Benevolence Fund. Calvert and Martin Funeral Home in Pontiac, IL, is in charge of the arrangements. Koehler Funeral Home in Boonville, IN, is also assisting with the arrangements. Velma was born on May 27, 1929, in Boonville, IN, to Leonard and Nettie (Garrison) Fetter. She married Edward Dykes and together they spent 48 wonderful years together. He preceded her in death on June 26, 1993. She later married Arden F. Drummond and together they spent 17 wonderful years together. He preceded her in death on November 1, 2015. She is survived by her children: Terry Lockyear from Chandler, IN and Kathy (Steve) Barnes of Forrest, IL; grandchildren: Tonya and Tommy Lockyear, Laura (Randy) Bischler, John Summers Jr., Alan (Jeni) Cheatham Jr.; great grandchildren: Alexis (Hanson) Schmidt, Zach Lockyear, Abigail (Charles) Smith, Devin (Bradlie) Bischler, Madison Bischler; and great-great grandchildren: Sydney, Josh, Allen Lockyear, Ryan Rogers, Mia, Hunter, Callum Schmidt, Jerzey and Zaylen Smith, Terrell Watson, Nash Bischler. She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands: Edward Dykes and Arden Drummond, brothers: Gerald, Russell and David Fetter, sisters: Lorena Moesner, Irene Dorsey, June Hess, Margaret Williams, Nora Lee Roll, Maxine Alexander, and Sandra Corn, son-in-law: Tom Lockyear, one great granddaughter: Marissa (Keegan) Watson and two great- great grandchildren: Denise Lynn Lockyear and Atianna Marie Watson. Velma was a proud member of the Mt. Olive General Baptist Church in Newburgh, IN. She was also a faithful charter member at the Nazarene Church in Chandler, IN, for many years. She worked on the line at Whirlpool Corporation for many years. Velma loved music. Her favorite song was “The Lord will make a way for me.” She was song leader at the Nazarene Church in Indiana for many years. She was also very proud of the Fetter children when they would sing.
