Traci Hollister

–

Pontiac, Illinois

Traci Jo Hollister (age 53) of Pontiac, IL, formerly of Spencer, NY, passed away September 15, 2025 at OSF St. James Medical Center in Pontiac, IL after a long battle with a rare disease. Traci was born May 22, 1972 in upstate NY. Traci moved to Illinois in 2015, where she met the love of her life, Michael DeFrees. They shared 10 wonderful years together and Michael was honored to be by her side through life’s journey to the last breath. Traci had a love for life, but adored her family and friends. Most cherished was always her children and grandchildren. Traci was a lifelong learner and was pursuing her bachelor’s degree in social work at the time of her passing. Traci had worked in various roles prior to being diagnosed with a chronic illness. Her passion for social work stems from a role as coordinator for the Salvation Army that inspired her and was a role she held dear. Traci loved the outdoors, reading, music, and sparking you to laugh.

Traci was preceded in death by her grandparents; infant son, Michael; son, Derek Nichols; and son, Tyler Nichols. Traci missed them terribly and is celebrating their reunion.

Traci is survived by her soulmate, Michael DeFrees; her parents, Richard and Clara Nichols; 2 brothers, Rich (Casey) Nichols and Brian Nichols; son, Jake Nichols; 2 daughters, Krista Bolt and Jessica Nichols; 10 grandchildren; and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Traci was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held at a later date when she can be laid to rest with her sons, in Elmira, NY.

Traci was a bright sparkling light in a world of darkness. Traci’s journey home was on a night of the rare Chi Cygnid meteor shower. She added light to the nighttime sky.

“And the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken” Mark 13:25
