Timothy Sherman Daugherty September 6, 1942 - July 9, 2024 Timothy Sherman Daugherty, 81, passed away July 9, 2024. Tim was born in Berkeley, CA on September 6, 1942 to Clayton "Jack" Sherman Daugherty and Margaret Imogene "Imo" Daugherty (née Quarles). Tim grew up in Fort Bragg, CA where he was competitive in football and excelled in scouting, earning the rank and badge of Eagle Scout at 16. Tim cherished his scouting days at Camps Noyo and Navarro in the redwoods of Northern California. Tim graduated from Fort Bragg High School in 1960 and enlisted in the United States Army. Completing basic training at Fort Ord, CA, he served in West Germany during the Cold War with the 594th Transportation Group (Movement Control). He was stationed at Grenadier Kaserne with the 5th RTMO group in Stuttgart from 1961-1963. Serving as a transport specialist, Tim developed a deep knowledge of European rail and road networks. He was given an immense amount of responsibility for military personnel and equipment movements, requiring initiative and independence which fueled his love of travel in foreign lands. His greatest challenge was the Berlin Crisis of 1961 when he helped coordinate the movement of tens of thousands of troops in the European Theater while NATO and Soviet forces squared off. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant (E-5) in 1963. Tim attended Sacramento City College receiving an Associate of Arts (AA) in 1965. He married Sandra Sinetos that year and moved back to Fort Bragg. In 1967, Tim moved to Grants Pass, OR where he and his father owned and operated Daugherty's Menswear. In Grants Pass, Tim became the proud father of two sons, Thomas and Sean. He also discovered his knack for sales, and went to work selling caps and gowns, rings and graduation announcements. Before any sales presentation, he would psych himself up blasting Neil Diamond's Crunchy Granola Suite. Tim would spend the rest of his career in sales reaching the executive level. He worked for many companies in his career but it was his twenty-plus years at Jostens that he loved dearly. He was the consummate sales professional. Tim's career took him from Oregon to Seattle, Minneapolis, and then Bloomington, IL in 1988 as VP of Sales for Nestle-Beich. In 1989 he met the love of his life, Pamela Sue Daugherty (née Page) in Bloomington. They married in Florida that same year and moved to Arizona in 1993. They forged a life together and traveled the world over. Their jet-set days behind them, Tim and Sue hit the road in their RV and traveled the United States. Joining them on their happy trails were their happy tails; Tootsie and Lucy. Along the way, they dabbled in all sorts of product sales. Tim was always burnishing his pitch, no matter the product. Tim and Sue moved back to Bloomington in 2015. He squeezed in a few more years with Jostens supporting the collegiate sales force in the Midwest, fully retiring in 2018. Tim was a great story teller, loved a good joke, and a wee dram (or two) of Jack Daniels. He believed in giving back and was a Paul Harris Fellow with Rotary International. He was also an accomplished genealogist and, combined with his father's research, traced the family history back to 1700 in Ireland where his predecessor boarded a ship bound for the New World. He published The Daugherty Family Association newsletter for several years reaching family members nationwide. He traveled through both Irelands many times over the decades, culminating in a visit to the family base at O'Doherty's Keep in Buncrana. Tim is survived by his loving wife, Sue Daugherty of Bloomington; his two sons: Thomas Daugherty (Heeyun), Germany, and Sean Daugherty (Yeonkyung), Sacramento, CA. His stepdaughter Lorie (Ken) Marsh, St. Paul, MN, and brother-in-law Stan Nelson, Springfield, IL. His cousins Lola Daugherty, Grants Pass, OR, Cindy Daugherty, Japan, Julie (Angus) Daugherty, New Jersey, and Dick Allen (Rosemary), Indio, CA. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Petty Officer Third Class (PO3) Jeesoo Daugherty, Norfolk, VA, Cody (Claudia) Paterson, Crystal Lake, IL, Alyssa Paterson, McKenzie Paterson, Audrey Marsh, and great-grandchild Eliana Paterson. He is preceded in death by his parents, cousin Ken Daugherty, and stepson Shane Paterson. Tim was a kind, gentle man who loved and was loved.
