Sylvia Lavon Phipps

Sylvia Lavon Phipps, 97, of Pana, died Saturday, April 7, 2012 in Pana Community Hospital. She was born June 30, 1914 in Vandalia, the daughter of Otis Young Dora Ann (Berryman) Roberts. Sylvia had worked at Sta-Rite in Shelbyville, Lecas Candy Factory, the Glove Factory, Schaffer Poultry Factory, National Greenhouse, and Pana Community Hospital, where she was a laundry department housekeeper. She loved to go to bingo and visit with her family. She loved having all of her children around her, and had several 5 generations in her family.
Sylvia married Leo Daniel Harlow on October 17, 1931 in Sullivan. He preceded her in 1966. She married Floyd Wade in 1967 and he preceded her in 1976. She married Willard Phipps in 1976 and he preceded her in 1979.
Sylvia is survived by her children: Anna Mae Wheat, Mode, IL; Fern Lenover, Pana, IL; Robert Harlow, Pana, IL; 10 grandchildren: Mike Harlow, Jean Mosley, Chuck Harlow, Dennis "Duke" Wheat, Debbie Howe, Jerry Lenover, Steve Lenover, Cindy Ashcraft, Chris Harlow, Beth Owens; 22 great grandchildren; 24 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Otis William Harlow; 6 sisters.
Funeral Information

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 11, 2012 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Lawrence Gibson officiating. Burial will be in Tower Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
