Steven A. Shaffer

–

Bloomington, Illinois

Steven A. Shaffer, 45, of Bloomington, passed away on Monday, January 29, 2024, at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. He was born on March 1, 1978, in Harvey, IL, son of Gail (Melton) Shaffer.

In September of 2007, Steven married the love of his life, Bethany C. Grubbs. Together, they built a beautiful life and family. He is survived by his wife, Bethany, and their children, Peyton (16), Brayden (14), and Colten (12). Steve's love and devotion to his family were unwavering, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

Steve's mother, Gail Shaffer of Bloomington, and his brother Tim (Patty) Shaffer of Colorado Springs, CO, will forever hold his memory close to their hearts. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Richard and Ethel Melton, and Wilbur and Ruth Shaffer.

Steve was a graduate of Pontiac High School, where he participated in multiple sports, served as the captain of the football team, and was a friend to many. He continued his education at Eureka College, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree and played football. Steve pursued various entrepreneurial ventures and had a passion for buying and selling online. In his free time, he enjoyed listening to music, sports, and watching the White Sox. He had a passion for cooking and loved experimenting to make his own recipes. However, his true calling and greatest joy came from being a stay-at-home dad. Steve was an incredible father who embraced every aspect of parenting. Whether he was watching movies, coaching his own children and community kids, rehearsing lines for a play, or making baby food, he was fully engaged and devoted. His love for his family was evident in everything he did.

Steve's dedication to his family extended beyond the home. He served as a PTO President and actively supported Tri-Valley Schools. He touched the lives of many through his involvement in the community and his willingness to lend a helping hand.

In addition to his family, Steve held a special place in his heart for his dogs, Jordan and his beloved best friend, Buehrle. Their companionship brought him comfort and joy.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, February 2, 2024, at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home in Bloomington. A memorial service to celebrate Steve's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 5, 2024, at Eastview Christian Church in Normal. Cremation rites have been accorded.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorials be made to Bethany Shaffer to be used for the benefit of the children of Steve Shaffer.
