Stanley Eugene Ulrich, a beloved member of the Washburn community and lifelong resident, passed away peacefully after a battle with glioblastoma. He deeply loved his family and community and was always quick with a corny dad joke or a witty comeback, bringing laughter to those around him. Family meant everything to Stan, and he always looked forward to time spent with them. He also cherished his many friendships, whether lifelong friends from Washburn, those he met through golf, pickleball, work, school or even his many customers over the years.
Stan was actively involved in numerous community organizations throughout his life. He served on the Washburn School Board, the Washburn Centennial Board, and was a member of the Lion’s Club. His leadership extended as President of the Grant Ireland Memorial Park Board for many years, where he notably introduced pickleball to the community. In honor of his contributions, the Washburn pickleball courts were dedicated to him on May 10th, 2025. Stan loved serving and working with everyone in the Washburn community and he was so thankful to those who helped make Washburn a better place.
A proud alumnus of Illinois State University, Stan majored in history and remained a devoted supporter of the Redbirds throughout his life. An avid reader and history enthusiast, he cherished learning and sharing stories from the past.
Stan owned and operated Ulrich Motor Company and Lacon Motors until his retirement in 2016. His love for travel was evident in his adventures visiting 49 states—only Hawaii eluded him—and numerous countries abroad. He especially enjoyed road trips with family and friends and had a deep appreciation for our National Parks.
A passionate sports fan, Stan never missed a sporting event, whether cheering on the Cardinals, Packers, or his daughters in their various activities. He also played softball for the Ulrich Motor Company-sponsored team and coached his daughters in the sport. He also loved playing golf and pickleball.
Stan was a devoted member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
He is survived by Willa, his wife of 51 years; two daughters, Sarah Burrell and Anne (Josh) Luchetti; two grandchildren, Davon Burrell and Bryn Luchetti; sister, Christine Ulrich DeBolt and brother, Jeff (Joan) Ulrich and many extended family members.
