Sherrilyn A. Tipsord Obituary (1938 - 2024)

Sherrilyn D. Tipsord, 86, of Bloomington, passed away February 21, 2024 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center. She was born January 1, 1938, in Bloomington, the daughter of James Bower and Mary Frances (Springer) Culbertson. She married H. Leon Tipsord on April 15, 1956, in Colfax. He preceded her in death on December 4, 2007. Survivors include three sons, Mark Tipsord, Marathon, Florida, Michael (Conni) Tipsord, Naples, Florida, and Gary (Tamela) Tipsord, LeRoy; seven grandchildren, Justin (Lyndsey) Tipsord, Nicholas (Jenna) Tipsord, Aaron (Madison) Tipsord, Haley (Kyle) Gerdes, Haley (Shelby) Jeorgesen, Rachael (Danny) Gassaway and Shelby Renee; seven great-grandchildren, Charles and James Tipsord, Andi and Leo Tipsord, and Micah, Jack and Noa Gerdes. Sherrilyn was an Octavia High School graduate and received her Bachelors Degree from Illinois State University in 1968 and her Masters Degree in Educational Administration from Illinois State University in 1975. Sherrilyn invested her entire professional career in the Tri-Valley School District. She served as an elementary school teacher and elementary school principal at Tri-Valley until her retirement in 1993. Her greatest joys were found in traveling with Leon to watch her grandchildren’s sporting events, teaching piano lessons, and spending time at Lake of the Ozarks. She counted as her many blessings the life lived in Cooksville, her family, and her profession of service. A private family service will be held with entombment at East Lawn Mausoleum, Bloomington. There will be no public visitation or service. Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements. The family would like to share their appreciation for the caregivers at Synergy Home Health and the dedicated palliative care staff and nurses at OSF. Thank you for the loving care of our Mother.
