Sharon L. Long Obituary (1940

Sharon L. Long, age 84, of Pontiac, passed away at 8:38 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at OSF St. James – John W. Albrecht Medical Center in Pontiac, IL. A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home in Pontiac. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Pontiac. A visitation will be held two hours prior to the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the Pontiac War Museum. Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Sharon was born on July 7, 1940, in Streator, IL, to Harlow and Nona (Williams) Iverson. She married Robert R. Jones. They later divorced. She married Edward Long on March 23, 1978, at Virginia Beach. He survives in Pontiac, IL. Other survivors include her children: Carol (Dave) Zimmer of Pontiac, IL, Donna Landers of Texas, Robert (Terri) Jones of Ohio; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters: Betty Riffey of Pontiac, IL, Marian Rudolph of Pontiac, IL and two brothers: Fred (Lena) Iverson of Fairfield, Illinois, and Gene (Shirley) Iverson of Streator, IL. She is preceded in death by her parents, one son: John Joseph Jones, two daughters: Brenda Lee Jones and Robin Metz, three sisters: Florence Majesky, Donna Brackney, Beverly Modglin and three brothers: Kenneth Iverson, Laverne Iverson, Howard Iverson. Sharon attended Cornell High School. She was a member of Authentic Church, American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, and the Moose Club. Sharon loved to cook, dance, and listen to country music. She was the best wife, mom, and grandma to her family that she adored with her whole heart. Family meant everything to her, and she enjoyed spending time with each and every one of them.
