Sandra D. Conaway

Sandra D. Conaway, 82, passed away at Carbondale Memorial Hospital surrounded by her children on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
Sandra was born on August 1, 1943 in Carbondale, IL, daughter of Thurman and Lois Taylor. Sandra married James K. Conaway in 1964. They were married for 61 years. Sandra was a crossing guard for James B. Parsons School for many years, a cafeteria worker at South Shores Elementary School and a custodian at Resurrection Life Church. She retired in 2017.
Sandra is survived by her husband: James Conaway; children: Jim (Kim) Conaway of Royalton, IL and Sheryl Kilpatrick of Carterville, IL; grandchildren: Shelby (Timmy) Grissom and Grace Adams; great grandchildren: Lyric, Isaac, Rayna and Zayne Grissom.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister: Carole Covington.
A funeral service to honor Sandra’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at Resurrection Life Church. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. until service time. Sandra will be laid to rest at Macon County Memorial Park Cemetery. Calvert & Wikoff North Chapel is assisting the family with services.
