Samuel B. "Brad" Quincy Obituary (1923

Samuel B. Brad Quincy, 93, of Myerstown, PA, formerly of Bloomington, IL, died at 9:13 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Stone Ridge Poplar Run in Myerstown, PA. His funeral will be at 2 .m. on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, where visitation will be one hour prior to services. A private interment will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Stone Ridge Poplar Run in Myerstown, PA or Destroyer Escort Historical Museum in Albany, NY. To express condolences online, please visit www.carmodyflynn.com. Brad was born July 23, 1923, son of William S. and Florence Gibb Quincy. He married Helen A. Ayers on December 6, 1947 in Villanova, PA; she preceded him in death on September 29, 2001 in Bloomington. Two brothers, William and Harold Quincy, also preceded him in death. Surviving are his children, Mary Therese (Kevin) Casey of Dillsburg, PA, Susan C. Quincy of Derby, CT, Barbara Ann (Tony) Gabel of Burlington, KY and John M. (Anne) Quincy of Minneapolis, MN and eight grandchildren: Ryan (Rita) Casey, Jessica (Joseph) Chernay, Meg (Paul) Moorhead, Christine (Garry) Tobias, Nicholas (Melissa) Gabel, Christopher (Amy Jo) Gabel, Samuel Quincy and Joseph Quincy. Also surviving are nine great-grandchildren: Noah, Kylie, Kayla, Conner, Aidan, Madeline, Kolby, Carter, Nathan, Braddock, Max, Rylie, Finn, and Etta. Brad was a United States WWII Navy veteran, where he served in the North Atlantic and the Mediterranean on the USS Hayter as Gunners Mate First Class. Following the war he graduated from the University of Illinois in Urbana, where he received a Bachelors Degree in Agricultural Sciences, Poultry Specialty. He advanced his career to become sales manager at FS and Growmark from which he retired in 1986. He was active in his community and served on the board of directors for the Miller Park Zoo and the Red Cross. Brad enjoyed ice cream, donuts, fishing, woodworking, camping, and sailing. In his later years, he and his companion Phyllis McCoy relished their time together traveling and socializing with friends and family. He is remembered for his humor, love and strength as a leader, parent, grandparent and friend to many.
