Roni K. Powell Obituary (1955

Roni K. Powell, 68, of Heyworth, IL, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on December 18, 2023. She was born in Herrin, Illinois on November 27th, 1955 a daughter of Shirley Sue Shafer (Barcus) and Clinton Eugene (Larry) Shafer. Roni retired from State Farm. Her greatest love was her husband, her children, and her grandchildren. She enjoyed camping, boating, racing, the Kentucky Derby, golfing, and taking care of her friends and family. Many knew her as “Mom Powell,” there was always a seat at her table, and enough food to feed the town. Roni was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Sue Shafer and is survived by her father, C.E. “Larry” Shafer (Connie Emberton); brother Larry Dale (Joyce) Shafer; husband Donald S. Powell; sons Joshua (Leah) Powell and Mathew (Rachel) Powell; daughter Stephanie (Brandon) Adkisson; grandchildren, Riley, Reed, Rhayna, Claire, Clayton, Hannah, and Samuel; many nieces and nephews. The visitation will be held on Saturday, December 23rd from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce in Heyworth, Illinois, with funeral service to follow at 12:00 pm. A burial will follow in Randolph Township Memorial Cemetery, Heyworth, IL.
