Roger L. Flurer Obituary (1938

Roger L. Flurer, 86, of Normal, IL passed away at 10:38 a.m. on Monday May 19, 2025, at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington. A private family service will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025, at Calvert-Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home, El Paso with Pastor Mike Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Gridley Cemetery. The family request no flowers and memorials be made to the Down Syndrome Association of Greater St. Louis, 1201 Hanley Industrial Court, Suite A, Brentwood MO 63144. Or to the Sturge-Weber Foundation 6105 S. Main Street # 200, Aurora, CO 80016. Rog was born December 7, 1938, in Pontiac, IL the son of Herbert and Odessa McColm Flurer. He married Marilyn K. Rathbun on August 21, 1960, in Gridley. She survives along with three daughters Lori (Frank) McKinley of Flanagan, Kathryn (David) Froelich of Bloomington, and Diane (Merle) Helgeson of Florence, KY; one sister Sharon (John) Ruble of Tampa, FL; five grandchildren Alyssa (Mike) Jones, Kristi (Dan) Denner, Alex Froelich, Abigael Froelich, and Gabriel Froelich; one granddaughter-in-law Jessica (Kyle) McKinley-Simpson; eight great-grandchildren Carson, Madlyn, Harrison, Tessa, Hannah, Hudson, Nelson, Dawson, and one on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Jim and Gary, and one grandson Timothy McKinley. Rog worked as a millwright for Caterpillar Tractor for 35 years. He served in the Army National Guard. He enjoyed hunting,gardening, antiquing, fishing, reading, garage sales, and traveling with Marilyn. He loved spending time with family and friends. Rog lived a life anchored in a deep faith in Jesus Christ. He was always quick to share that faith, speaking of God’s love with sincerity and joy. His trust in God shaped how he lived and how he loved others, leaving a legacy that continues to inspire all who knew him.
