Robert "Don" Scarlett

Robert "Don" Scarlett, 93, of Pana passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at St. John's Hospital, Springfield. He was born November 29, 1926 in West Frankfort, IL, son of the late Fred & Margaret (Brown) Scarlett. Don married Rheta P. Moore and they later divorced. She preceded him in death on February 13, 2005.
Don was a graduate of Pana High School. He then proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He worked as a printer for the State of Illinois for 10 years before serving as a Pana Police Officer from 1956-1976. Don served for a brief time as Chief of Police in Morrisonville and retired from the Illinois Department of Revenue. Don was an avid Cardinal baseball fan and was the founder of the Pana Toys-For-Tots.
Surviving are his daughters: Kim Parkison, Taylorville, IL and Kelly Scarlett, Memphis, TN; grandchildren: Brandon McClain, Scarlett McClain and great grandchildren: B.J. McClain, Bryce McClain & Elizabeth Kniery. In addition to his parents & ex-wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Jean White & Fred W. Scarlett.
Cremation rites will be accorded and no services are planned.
Memorials in Don's honor may be made to the Toys-For-Tots and will be accepted by McCracken-Dean Funeral Home who is assisting the family.
