Robert "Larry" Maddox Obituary (1940

Robert Lawrence “Larry” Maddox, 85, of Virden, IL, passed away Friday, March 6, 2026, at his residence surrounded by his family. Larry was born June 21, 1940, in Springfield, IL, the son of Robert and Martha (Metcalf) Maddox. He married Nan Burger on December 18, 1960, in Carlinville, IL. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Nan Maddox of Virden, IL, their children, Kim Maddox of Virden, IL and Todd (Suzanne) Maddox of Girard, IL; four grandchildren: Megan (Matt Rhodes) Maddox of Girard, IL, Mason (Micaela) Kahl of Virden, IL, Danielle Maddox of Girard, IL, and Ozzie Maddox of Girard, IL; one great-granddaughter, Shelby Rhodes of Girard, IL; his two brothers, Don (Sharon) Maddox of Tampa, FL, and John (Kathy) Maddox of Girard, IL; four nephews, a niece, and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter at birth, Sophie Maddox, and a brother, Rick Maddox. Larry was a proud member of UA Local 137 where we worked as a pipefitter from 1960-2001. During his free time, he coached little league baseball and could be seen mowing grass at Virden Cemetery. He was an avid bowler, golfer, and enjoyed watching all sports. He was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Girard, IL for several years. He will be dearly missed. Per Larry’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded by Airsman & Calvert Funeral Home in Virden, IL. A private graveside service will be held later at Mayfield Memorial Park in Carlinville, IL.
