Robert Alan "Bob" Jones, Sr., 74, of Pana, formerly of Assumption, died Thursday, April 5 at 8:45 a.m. at his residence, after a long battle with Primary Systemic AL Amyloidosis. He was born December 9, 1932 in rural Moweaqua, son of Ralph T. and Bernice D. Nein Jones. He graduated from Assumption High School in 1950. Bob married Lois Burgener August 23, 1951.
Bob was a long time area farmer south of Rosamond, on the 800-acre farm. He raised grain, dairy, hogs, and beef cattle. He served on the Rosamond Coop board, was a Farm Bureau Member, and won awards for crop production. Once retired from farming, he drove a school bus for the Pana School District for almost twenty years, until his retirement in 2003. Bob was known as the favorite bus driver with his beloved #44 bus. If the teams had a bad outcome in their event, Bob was known to swing through a Dairy Queen to give the team a sweet treat to help with their spirits. He really enjoyed all of his bus riders, and he really loved driving on the night and weekend trips. Bob was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Pana; he loved to fish and hunt in his spare time and solve his Soduko puzzles.
Bob is survived by his wife Lois, daughter Cindy, sons Robert Alan, Jr. (wife Kim), Steven K. (wife Jennifer), and Ralph E. (wife Heidi). Grandchildren: Amy, Emily, Jeremy, Karey, Matt, Megan, and Bambi. Great grandchildren: Dalton, Alexandra, Griffin, and two little buds on the way. Brothers: Ralph David (wife Deema), Paul (wife Barbara), John (wife Jeanie), and sisters: Carol (husband Don Butler), Sandy (husband Jim Powers). Many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Bob's life was his family, trying to do as much as he could for them. He built many barns, doll beds, desks and chairs, play houses, and wishing wells. He also enjoyed to just sit and hold them and tell stories of the "old days," which everyone loved. In 2006, Bob worked hard on writing "Memories of a Midwest Farmer," a book that told stories of his past for all of his family. Bob really appreciated all of his family and friends that helped him out until the end, including his life-long friend, Bob Adcock.
