Robert E. Hunter Obituary (1943

Robert E. Hunter of Virden passed away, April 29, 2025. He graduated from Virden High School with the Class of 1961, where he played football and basketball. In 1968, he received a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Illinois in Champaign. He had worked for Central Illinois Public Service, Hobbs in Springfield, Snell’s Tire Store in Virden and then was co-owner of Snell’s John Deere Store in Virden. When he retired, he had a small machine shop in Virden. In 2006, working with his brother, Marc, he received a patent for automatic sizing one-handed pliers. Robert is survived by his wife, Nancy; sisters, Marcia (Bill) Woodruff and Marji Field of Virden; brother, Marc (Gail) Hunter of highland, IL; daughter, Terry Hunter of Springfield; son, Jim Hunter of Springfield many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and beloved pet, Libby. Robert was preceded in death by his son, William Hunter. Private Family Tributes were held. Memorials may be made to Grand Prairie-West Library, 142 W. Jackson, Virden, IL 62690.
