Rita Elmore

Rita Elmore, 71, of Virden, IL, passed away Sunday, October 26, 2025 at her residence surrounded by her family.

Rita was born January 21, 1954, the daughter of Orville and Ruth (Coburn) Matheny. She married James “Butch” Louis Elmore on December 30, 1994, in which they celebrated thirty years of marriage. He preceded her in death on November 1, 2023.

Her children and grandchildren she loved unconditionally; Brock (Alicia) Aumiller of Benld, Dusty (Doug) Pierson of Virden, Tammy (Bobby) Miller of Edinburg, Tina Elmore of Pana, Joe Elmore of Tower Hill, and Jamie (Frank) Hughes of Granite City; 25 grandchildren: Ellie (Steven) Boothe, Lexi Boothe, Rachel Boothe, Mitchell Boothe, Tyler Pierson, Ashlee Aumiller, Walter Aumiller, Joan Aumiller, John Hupp, William Hupp, Brian Hupp, Hannah Miller, Alaina Griffith, William Woodall, Trinity Carlyle, TC Dixon, Josh Dixon, James Elmore, Kaleb Elmore, Ricky Elmore, Tori Hughes, Sophie Dixon, Piper Dixon, Jimmy Elmore, and Zander Elmore; loved by her family; Sandy (Ed) Austiff, Marty Coburn, Pat (Bob) Humphrey, and Dale (Mary) Lair.

Per Rita’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded by Airsman & Calvert Funeral Home in Virden, IL. A private burial will be held at a later date at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
