Richard Williams

Richard J. Williams, 60, of Virden, gained his heavenly wings Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at his residence. He was born on August 27, 1965, in St. Charles, IL, the son of Jack and Jean (Dorr) Williams.

Richard graduated from class 85’ of Girard High School. He enjoyed careers in the trucking and steel mill industries as well as Union Pacific Railroad. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, football, baseball, basketball, and watching his grandkids play sports.

He married Sherry Chandler on August 2, 1997, at Covered Bridge in Glenarm. In November 2001, he adopted Sherry’s daughter, Haylee, at the courthouse in Hillsboro, IL

Richard was a faithful member of the New Life Family Church, Auburn, IL for almost 30 years where he loved attending the men’s breakfast, making eggs for fundraisers, helping others when needed.

Surviving are his wife of 29 years, Sherry Williams of Virden, IL; his children Haylee (Mikey) Ayala of Virden, IL; Jonathan Williams and Eva Williams, both of Virden, IL; grandchildren: Joshua and Alana Miller of Springfield, IL; Audrey, Danielle and Calvin Ayala of Virden, IL; sister Vicky (Terry) Rigney of Girard, IL; brothers Tim Williams of Carlinville, IL; and Don Williams of Girard, IL as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

Per Richard’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded by Airsman & Calvert Funeral Home in Virden. A Celebration of Richard’s life will be held at New Life Family Church in Auburn, IL. Family will receive friends for visitation 10-11am, August 29, 2026, with services following. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
