Richard L. Terven Sr. Obituary (1947

Richard L. Terven Sr., age 76, of Bloomington, IL, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 27, 2024, at 9:46 a.m. at McLean County Nursing Home, Normal, IL. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at Calvert and Martin Funeral Home in Pontiac. A visitation will be held an hour prior, starting at 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Patty Cemetery in Rural Pontiac. Reverend James O. Wolfe III will be officiating. Memorials in Richard’s memory may be made to the family. Calvert and Martin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Richard was born on November 12, 1947, in Bloomington, IL, to John Terven Sr. and Hazel (Lown) Terven. He married Laurel “Laurie” Hanson on May 10, 2014, at Miller Park at the Vietnam Memorial. She survives in Bloomington, IL. He is also survived by his children: Richard Lee Terven Jr. of Bloomington, IL, John Terven of Bloomington, IL, and Beth (Chris) Spivey of Bloomington; seven grandchildren; and two brothers: Dale Terven of Bloomington, IL, and David “Fuzzy” Terven of Bloomington, IL. He is preceded in death by his parents, and one brother in infancy. Richard graduated from Danvers High School. He joined the United States Navy after high school and served for three years. He then continued to serve in the Army National Guard for 11 years. He had several different jobs after being discharged. He worked construction, drove a truck, and was a jack of all trades. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and the NRA. Richard loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hiking, and hunting. Above all, he loved his family.
