Raynard Monk Obituary (1949

Raynard Monk, 1949-2020 Virden, IL - Raynard Monk, 70, of Virden, died peacefully at his home on November 13, 2020. He was born December 14, 1949 in Rural Rock, West Virginia to the late Walter and Rose Monk. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Sue Hale, and his brother Sam Monk. He married Betty Swaggerty in 1969. Ray is survived by his wife, Betty, his children Gregory Monk, Christina (Justin) Pruiett, and Brian (Julie) Monk; six grandchildren, Austin Pruiett, Colin Pruiett, Emily Monk, Abigail Monk, Barrett Monk and Madison Monk; a brother Walter Monk Jr. and two sisters, Shirley Atwood and Linda Woodley; as well as several nieces and nephews. Ray was a press builder in Chicago for many years, until the company downsized. Following this he worked independently whenever his health allowed. He was a member of the Auburn Christian Church since 2011. He loved the Lord, and enjoyed serving in the church and helping out his church family whenever he could. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, and his good-heartedness and will be missed by many, but not forgotten. Ray had a passion for woodworking and spent many days in his garage shop working on different projects. When his health deteriorated even more, he passed his time watching woodworking videos online, and reading woodworking magazines. Cremation services are being handled by Airsman & Calvert Funeral Home in Virden. Due to Covid restrictions a private ceremony will be held at a later date.
