Odus T. Cheek

Odus T. Cheek, 78, of Tower Hill, died Wednesday, April 25, 2018 in Decatur Memorial Hospital. He was born August 2, 1939 in Lee County, VA, son of the late Odus & Hattie (Edens) Cheek.
Odus was raised in Rose Hill, Virginia before moving to New Port, Kentucky in 1967, living in Oakwood, IL, then Champaign, IL before moving to Tower Hill in 1976. He received a master's degree and worked as Superintendent at Tower Hill Schools from 1976 until his retirement. In his retirement, he helped with the Shelby County Crime Stoppers and the Shelby County Board of Health. Odus was a member of the Tower Hill Free Methodist Church, and most recently was involved in the new Free Methodist Church in Shelbyville. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking.
Odus married Saundra "Sandy" Ritch on May 18, 1962 in Lawrenceburg, IN. She preceded him in death on April 9, 2017.
He is survived by his daughter, Sherri M. (Michael) Cheek Walsh, Chicago, IL; granddaughter, Chelsey Walsh, Marshfield, WI; brother & sisters: J.E. Cheek, Charlotte (Rex) Hensley, Violet Givens, Clyo Wright & Sherrann (Larry) Witt; and sisters-in-law, Henrietta Cheek & Margarita Ritch. He was also preceded in death by a son, Jeffery Tyler Cheek; and brothers, Harold Cheek & Rhea Cheek.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor Ron Newman officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until service time in the funeral home. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Cheek Family Cemetery, Rose Hill, VA.
Memorials in Odus's honor may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, who were instrumental in the care of Odus & Sandy's son, Jeffery.
