Nick Shepherd

–

Clinton, Illinois

Nick Shepherd, 58, of Springfield, Illinois, passed away peacefully at his home on October 22, 2026.

Nick was born on August 20, 1968, in Pekin, Illinois, to Richard and Kathy (Stevens) Shepherd.

Nick’s love of sports began at an early age. Naturally athletic, he had a talent for nearly any sport he tried, but as he grew older, golf became his game of choice. He was also a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan who loved spending time at Wrigley Field, cheering on his team through the highs and lows of countless seasons. His loyalty extended to the Chicago Bears, whom he followed with equal enthusiasm.

Nick also seemed to have a special kind of luck when it came to fishing. Somehow, he always managed to catch the most fish—and usually the biggest. That knack showed itself early in life during a family vacation when, as a young boy, he reeled in trout after trout, catching enough to provide the family’s entire fish dinner. It became a treasured family memory and perfectly captured Nick’s natural ability to make a good day of fishing even better.

Among the most meaningful parts of Nick’s life were his children, each of whom held a special place in his heart. He is survived by his four children, Kaleb Tyler (Jessica) Shepherd, Paige Nicolette (Levi) Gregory, Kameron Allen Shepherd, and Carson Richard Shepherd; and his four grandchildren, Ivy Grace Shepherd, Layla Nicolette Gregory, Indy Rae Shepherd, and Jonan Eugene Gregory.

Nick is also survived by his parents, Richard and Kathy Shepherd; and his siblings, Terra (Jeff) Olson, Richard Shepherd, and Dyan (Jerod) Guerin.

Nick was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Shannon Nicole Shepherd. Though her life was far too short, her memory remains forever woven into the story of his life and the family he leaves behind.

Like so many of us, Nick faced personal struggles and challenges throughout his life. Though his journey was not always easy, those struggles were only one part of his story. It is said that a tree is known by its fruit. Despite the storms that bent his branches, Nick’s love for his children remained deeply rooted. In the strength, resilience, and love they carry within them, the best parts of Nick will live on for generations to come.

A memorial service celebrating Nick’s life will be held at a later date. The family has entrusted Calvert Funeral Home in Clinton, Illinois, with cremation arrangements.

In lieu of flowers or donations, Nick would want you to buy a ticket to a ballgame, play a round of golf, or enjoy a game of cards (which, according to Nick, he was pretty good at!). Above all, share those moments with the people you care about.
