Morrison "Mac" McClure Obituary (1942

Morrison “Mac” Edmonds McClure, 84, of Pana passed away Sunday, August 2, 2026 at Rose Garden of Pana. He was born April 2, 1942 in Decatur, IL, son of the late Samuel B. & Ethel May (Long) McClure. Mac earned a bachelor’s degree in design and a master’s degree in fine arts. He served in the U.S. Army, where he was a cryptographer for the Hawk unit in Germany and then was a janitor for Pana Elementary Schools and ADM in Decatur. Mac was very creative and made quill pens, knitting needles out of feathers, sterling silver jewelry, mostly rings and pendants. He enjoyed calligraphy and all styles of the alphabet. He collected Siamese gambling tokens, fountain pens (and repaired them), rubber stamps and decorative magnets. Mac did old cemetery readings for all cemeteries within 30 miles of Pana. He and Malinda also published the itineraries for the walking tours of historic Pana homes: Quality Hill, Locust Street, and Around the Library. Mac is survived by his sister, Malinda McClure, Pana. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Samuel A. McClure and his cat, Dan D. Lion. Per Mac’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials in Mac’s honor may be made to the Central Food Bank and will be accepted by McCracken-Dean Funeral Home who is assisting the family.
