Mona Maryann Johnstone Obituary (2024)

Mona Maryann Johnstone, 93, of Bloomington, IL passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2024 at her residence. A private family graveside service will be held with Fr. Thomas Reeves officiating. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The family suggests memorials be made to St. Matthews Episcopal Church, Bloomington, IL. Maryann was born January 7, 1931 in East Chicago, Indiana, the daughter of L. Monroe and Alice Soderstrom Edwards. She married Norman Johnstone on April 7, 1951 in East Chicago. He passed away September 30, 1995. Surviving is her daughter, Jennifer (J. Steven) Jordan, Bloomington, IL, 2 grandsons, Mitchell (Liz) Jordan, Sun Prairie, WI, Dean (Lauren) Jordan, Bloomington, IL, 5 great-grandchildren, Jack, Hannah, Jeremy, Eli, and Leah. Also surviving is her niece and god-daughter, Lynn Andersen (Phil) Lindberg, Carbondale, IL and many grand-nieces and nephews. Maryann is preceded in death by her parents, brother Richard Edwards, sister-in-law Carolyn Andersen, and brother-in-law Clif Andersen. Prior to moving to Bloomington, Maryann and Norman lived in River Forest, IL for 27 years. There they were active members of Christ Episcopal Church. They enjoyed many summers at the River Forest Tennis Club, and socializing with friends and family at Oak Park Country Club. Maryann was an accomplished dancer and she and Norman performed in many productions with Oak Park Musical Theater, as well as countless amateur skits with local organizations. After moving to Bloomington in 1990, Maryann (Mona) joined St. Matthews Episcopal Church. She remained active until her health declined, and spent many enjoyable hours there with her friends the “Quilting Bees”. Mona/Maryann/Mamie will long be remembered for her big personality and generous spirit. She treasured her time with family, and especially adored her grandchildren.
