Michele D. Carmichael Obituary (1954

Michele D. Carmichael, 70, of Decatur, IL went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, January 27, 2025. Michele was born on December 9, 1954 at Decatur Memorial Hospital where she later met her future husband Don in 1975. The couple were wed on September 11, 1976. God blessed Don and Michele with the birth of their son Benjamin Thoreau Carmichael on June 18, 1979, and again with the birth of their daughter Genevieve Michele Carmichael on October 30, 1981. Ben and his wife Anne reside in Jersey City, NJ. Genny and her husband Valentin reside with their two daughters Josephine and Juliette in St. Cloud, France. Michele was a graduate of Lincoln Community High School, Decatur Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and Millikin University. As a 16-year-old she volunteered as a candy-striper at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln, IL. After graduating high school Michele worked in nursing homes to independently finance her RN degree. Later she would earn her BSN degree at Millikin University while achieving certification in oncology nursing nationally. Indeed, she lived her life-long dream of serving God through her profession of nursing cancer patients while serving as volunteer parish nurse and prayer minister at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she would share her musical talent as occasional vocalist during worship services. Her “spare” time passion/hobby was designing and creating faith-based Christ-centered greeting cards for friends and family. Her favorite Bible verse was “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13. The family will host a memorial service to celebrate Michele’s life at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with a luncheon to follow. Donations may be made to Unity School Association, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or the Salvation Army.
