Michael J. Sandy

Michael J. Sandy, 72 of Bloomington, passed away at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, April 25, 2020 at his home.

A memorial service with military rites will be scheduled at a future date. Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington is assisting the family with cremation arrangements.

Mike was born March 1, 1948 in Las Vegas, N.M., the son of Max James and Rena May Hudson Sandy. He married Susan Lynn Mead on March 2, 1973 in Chicago. She survives.

Also surviving are three children, Rena (Timothy) Lopez of Titusville, FL, Mike Sandy, Jr of Atlanta, GA and Damon Sandy of Bloomington; seven grandchildren, Mersadi Sandy, Jade Wirsing, Zackary Wirsing, Lauren Wirsing, Aspen Sandy, Eli Sandy and Jaylen Sandy; one great grandson, Fletcher Hubb; a brother, Rick Mason of Burlington, IA and a sister, Debbie (Rick) Hellweg of West Point, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mike was a Viet Nam Veteran, serving in both the US Marine Corps and the US Army. He worked as a machinist and a union painter. He enjoyed golf, his friends and entertaining his neighbors. As well as being quite a character and extremely funny, Mike was kind and generous. He was a die-hard Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. Mike will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
