Michael "Mike" J. Heenan Obituary (1948

Michael “Mike” John Heenan, age 76, of Pontiac, passed away at 9:01 a.m. on January 2, 2025, in Pontiac, Illinois. Cremation rites have been recorded. A memorial mass will be held on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pontiac. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Father David Sabel will be officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Memorials in Mike’s memory may be made to the donor’s choice. Michael was born on August 10, 1948, in Pontiac, IL to John F. and Shirley (Long) Heenan. Survivors include one sister, Kathryn M. Heenan of Ottawa, IL, and one brother, Thomas J. Heenan of Pontiac, IL; one niece, Jeremie Ann (Jeffrey) Schulz of Ottawa, IL, and one nephew, Sam Heenan of Plainfield, IL. He is also survived by 2 great-nieces and one great-nephew, Sophia, Michael, and Alaina Schulz. He is preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Patrick J. Heenan. Mike graduated from Pontiac Township High School in 1966. He proudly served as a Sergeant in the United States Army, serving in the 2nd Infantry Division in Korea, 1st Infantry Division Vietnam CIB, then later 101st Airborne. He worked for many years at Heenan Electric, Project Manager at Foley Electric, and later as a Rancher and Maintenance Coordinator in California. He was a lifelong member of the VFW and St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was a volunteer firefighter, and received a 20 year Elks membership pin. Michael had a special place in his heart for all animals. He always enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and his beloved dogs. He also enjoyed fishing and ranching. The love Mike had for his family cannot be put into words. He cherished every countless memory made with them. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
