Maunis Edwin "Ed" Godbey Obituary (1921

Maunis Edwin Godbey (Ed) passed away peacefully in his sleep at age 97 on October 27, 2018 at Martin Health Center, Bloomington. Ed was born at home in Brooklyn, Iowa to Maunis Ivan Godbey and Martha Etta Tinker Godbey. He was married to Ruth Lavonne Tjarks on February 4, 1951. She passed away in May of 2006 after 55 happy years of marriage. Ed graduated from Oelwein High School, Oelwein, Iowa. He attended Iowa Wesleyan and the University of Iowa where he graduated from the College of Medicine. He also completed his residency training at the University of Iowa Hospitals and practiced medicine in both Iowa and Illinois. He served as Captain in the Medical Corp of the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Ed was preceded in death by his parents and only sibling, a brother, Dale. He is survived by two sons, Richard of North Liberty, Iowa and Robert of Bloomington, Illinois; two granddaughters, Christine and Michelle; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ed was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye football fan. He will be greatly missed. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Shrine Crippled Children Hospitals or charity of your choice. Beck Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.
