Mary Joan "Joannie" Kaliher

Mary Joan Kaliher (Joannie) died peacefully and surrounded by her family on February 8, 2026. Joannie was the daughter of the late Bruce E. and Gwendolyn (Heininger) Bauter, and wife of the late Gene Kaliher. Joannie and Gene were the parents of six children, Charles “Chip,” Cindy Houser (John) of Farmer City, Mike (Vicky) of Farmington, Bill (Sue) of Normal, Gwen Badgerow (Mark) of Bloomington, and Susan (Brett) of Stanford. Preceding her in death were her husband, Gene, her son, Chip, and grandson, Kit Nauman. Joannie is survived by ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; brother Bruce K. Bauter (Sue) of Henry; brother-in-law Vernon Kaliher of Springfield, VA; and sister-in-law Lorraine Koehler (Tom) of Cedar Rapids, IA. Joannie earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Illinois University and was a private piano teacher. She was co-owner of the family business, J&J Package Liquors, for many years. “Grandma Joannie” joyously attended every athletic and musical event she could, showing each grandchild her steadfast love and support. Joannie was deeply loved and respected by all who knew her and touched so many in her thoughtful and kind manner. She was a great listener, a top-notch bridge player, and knitted afghans for every family member, meticulously selecting the perfect color for each one. Cremation rites have been accorded. Inurnment will be at a later date in Calvary Cemetery, Henry. Memorials may be given to Henry Nutitrion Site . Calvert & Johnson Memorial Home, Henry is in charge of arrangements.
