Martha Jo Scott

–

Bloomington, Illinois

Martha Jo Scott was born on September 22, 1946, in Quincy, Illinois. She was the first
child of William and Nadine (Kiser) Maynard.
After Jo graduated from Augusta High School in 1964 she attended nursing school at
Barnes Hospital in St. Louis and Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

She married Carl Ogle on November 12, 1967. They had two daughters, Julia and
Rachel.
Jo worked at Blessing Hospital and at St. James Hospital in Pontiac. She worked as an
office nurse for doctors in private practice. She taught a variety of health-related
courses at area community colleges. Jo was also in managerial positions at area health science services. She retired in 2015.

Jo always enjoyed learning new things. She took classes on varied subjects, taught
herself embroidery, needle point, and paper crafts. Her handmade “Wee Houses” were
popular at Christmastime. She also enjoyed her “Girls Night Out” friendships. Jo loved
her church family at Northside Church of Christ, especially her small group Bible study.
Jo enjoyed traveling. She fondly remembered her trip to India with Julia. She was
proud to say she had been to 14 foreign countries on four continents and to 47 states.
On October 10, 1998, she married Irvin Scott in Chenoa where they lived for 27 years.

In August of 2025 Jo and Irv moved to Bloomington. After a long illness, Jo passed away on January 6, 2026.

Jo was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband Irv; her daughters Julia Wilcox (husband Degas*) and
Rachel Miller (husband Rick); her grandchildren Brittany Macero (husband Eugene),
Troy Miller, and Seth Miller; great-grandchildren Max and Alora Macero; her brother
Steve Maynard (wife Pam); and many cousins.
Jo has three stepchildren, Lance Scott (wife Elizabeth), Julie Shoemaker (husband
Chris), and Kenji Scott (wife Corrie).

Jo enjoyed being the step-grandmother of Nicole Topper (husband (Keith) and their
children Luke and Lauren; Nathaniel Scott (wife Gabrielle); Abigail Canepa** (husband
Aaron) and their daughter Alaina; Kaitlyn Jess (husband Johnny) and their son Jackson; and Henry and Avery Scott.
Jo also cherished her long-time friendships with Vennetta Joliff and Rita Karczewski

More than anything else, let us remember Jo as one who can approach the throne of
God’s grace with confidence because of Jesus Christ.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, January 17, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Northside Church of Christ, 1908 N. Towanda Barnes Rd., Bloomington, IL., 61705.
