Margie Ann Vanderhoof Obituary (1959

Margie Ann Vanderhoof March 29, 1959 - March 14, 2026 Margie Ann Vanderhoof, nee Kistner, of Bloomington, IL, formerly of Belleville, IL, passed away peacefully at home on March 14, 2026 after a short battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family. Margie was born March 29, 1959, to Norman and Lucille Kistner, nee Lanter, in Belleville, IL. Margie married Richard Vanderhoof, Jr. on October 2, 1982, celebrating over 43 years of marriage. Margie graduated from Althoff Catholic High School and Southwestern Illinois College in Belleville, IL. She worked at State Farm Insurance for 35 years, her last years of work administering continuing education tests in the Test Center. Many testers will remember her congratulations upon successfully passing tests, or her kind, encouraging words when they did not. Margie joined her husband in retirement in 2021. Margie loved her family and friends with all her heart and soul. She loved watching her grandchildren's dance recitals and sports activities. She was their “Nanny”. She loved garage and estate sales. Once retired she became a great gardener and loved walking the trail with her son, Tom. The birds, squirrels, chipmunks and rabbits that ate at her bird feeder daily will miss her. Margie was a devout Catholic her entire life. She was a member of Most Holy Eucharist Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church of Merna in Bloomington, IL for over 38 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Lucille Kistner; in-laws, Richard and Carol Vanderhoof, Sr.; and her loving, loyal, “shadow” dog, Max, who never left her side. Surviving to cherish her memory are her beloved husband, Rich; children, Carrie (Joey) Lowry, Timothy (Megumi) Vanderhoof, and Thomas Vanderhoof; 7 grandchildren, Emma, Josh, Ava, Ella, and Mila Lowry, and Lee and Lucy Vanderhoof; siblings, Joan (Jim) Dohle, Dan (Susan) Kistner, Gary (Elaine) Kistner, and Mark (Sheree) Kistner; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Debbie (Ken) Rodenburg, Diane (Howard) Durant, Jen (John) Grupe, and Joe (Diane) Vanderhoof. She will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family would like to thank the nurses, techs and doctors at OSF St. Francis for their compassionate care and support. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Margie’s memory. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 am, Friday, March 27, 2026, at St. Patrick Catholic Church of Merna in Bloomington, IL, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. Fr. Dustin Schultz will be the celebrant and Monsignor Jerry Ward will concelebrate. A luncheon will take place in Shamrock Hall immediately after Mass. All are welcome to join the family at the Burial at Green Mount Catholic Cemetery Chapel in Belleville, IL on Saturday, March 28 at 12:00 pm and Monsignor Bill McGhee will preside.
