A member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Springfield, IL, the Ansar Shrine of Springfield, IL and the Christian County Shrine Club, Taylorville. In 1942 he worked at Willow Run in Michigan, building B24 at Illiopolis War Plant making ammunition shells. In 1944 Lyman went to auctioneer school in Mason City, Iowa. In 1946 after graduating he auctioneered farm and household sales in the community. Lyman helped organize the Mt. Auburn Volunteer Fire Dept. in 1954 and served as a trustee for the Fire Dept. for 23 years. He was a Cub Scout Leader and a 4H Leader in the Mt. Auburn community.
