–

Decatur, Illinois

LeRoy Charles Moyer, 80, passed away at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri on May 1, 2024.

LeRoy was born on December 25, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois to Gilbert Charles Moyer and Irene Marsh Moyer.

He is survived by his wife, Judith Ann Moyer, his daughters Kimberly Haas and Kelly Jo (Doug) Nichols; his sons Jeffrey (Jenny) Oost and Gregory (Lisa) Oost; his grandchildren: James (Hannah) Oost, Erica and Brianna Haas, Kylie and Kierstin Nichols, Elizabeth and Emma Oost; his sister Delores (Donald) Coventry; his niece Angel Wilson and nephew Troy Wilson all of Decatur, Illinois. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, his son Todd LeRoy Moyer, and his son-in-law Von Haas.

LeRoy was a graduate of Argenta High School in 1962. He attended Brown’s Business College. After college he started farming and training standardbred harness horses which became a successful career for many years. After training horses, he started working for the State of Illinois inspecting harness horses on standardbred farms for about three years. After retiring from the horse business, he started driving a bus for Mt. Zion Schools for 13 years until he became ill.

LeRoy had been a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church for over 50 years, where he served on several committees. He taught Bible school, helped in the nursery, coached upward basketball, a leader of the F.A.I.T.H. program, and concluded as a Sunday school teacher. LeRoy was also a member of the Macon County Farm Bureau, a board member of the Macon County Fairgrounds, President of the Downstate Classic, and a member of the USTA. He was also a member of the ARBA and ADRC which are rabbit associations.

LeRoy’s hobbies and passion were his animals! He wanted all his loved ones to be involved with animals by showing goats, pigs, and rabbits at county and state fairs. He loved traveling and taking his Tortoise Dutch rabbits to national shows. He had a Jack Russell Terrier, Chief, who he loved dearly. He was a true friend! His new friend he had for the past few years was Clyde, a Bernedoodle, that he took everywhere he went.

His favorite holiday was Christmas, his birthday. We always started with the reading of the Christmas story from the Bible. He loved handing out presents and seeing the expressions on his loved ones faces.

LeRoy was a wonderful husband, father, and Papa. He had a beautiful smile that brought joy to so many lives. Papa loved attending his grandchildren’s various sporting events, concerts, and anything else they were involved in. He mostly loved the quality time with his family and planning trips to be together. LeRoy had a very outgoing personality and never met a stranger. He also had a very generous heart and was a faithful man of God. He will be deeply missed by family and so many friends and we will always cherish our time together.

There will be a visitation on Saturday, May 11, 2024 from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Decatur, IL. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. for family and friends.
