Lemuel Lehman

–

Mount Zion, Illinois

With deep sorrow and loving remembrance, we announce the passing of Lemuel L Lehman, who left us peacefully on June 16, 2025, at the age of 93.

Lemuel was born on September 8, 1931, the son of Homer and Ida (Bell) Lehman. He married Barbara (Haynes) Lehman on July 16, 1953, and together they shared 62 devoted years of marriage until her passing in 2016. They raised three sons: Fred and Robert Horne and Lyle Lehman.

A proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Lemuel served honorably during the Korean War. Following his military service, he returned home to Illinois where he became a dedicated farmer and later retired from GE Cable. Lemuel was also a longtime and faithful member of Long Creek United Methodist Church. He was known and loved by many in his community and his home was always open to those he loved. He taught those around him the importance of kindness, resilience, and hard work. His memory will live in the hearts of his family and friends for generations to come.

He is survived by his sons: Robert (Anne) Horne and Lyle Lehman both of Blue Mound, IL (partner Jeanne Camfield); daughter-in-law Coralesa Horne of Illiopolis, IL; as well as many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara; his son, Fred Horne; his great-granddaughter, Jocelyn Foutch; his grandson, Brandon Horne; and his siblings: Ruby, Opal, Ella, Floyd, William, Daniel, Anna, Forrest, Nina, and Roger.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Taylorville Estates for always treating Lemuel like family, and to his cherished Breakfast Club companions for bringing joy and friendship to his days.

On Tuesday, June 24 a visitation will be at 10 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m. to celebrate and honor his life at Calvert & Wikoff Funeral Home in Mt Zion. He will be laid to rest at Point Pleasant Cemetery following the service. In leiu of flowers the family suggests memorials may be made to the Long Creek United Methodist Church or A Heart for Animals PO Box 986, Huntley, Illinois 60142. Messages of condolence may be shared with the family at Calvertmemorial.com.
