Leila M. Carlson Obituary (1934

Leila M. Carlson, 89, Bloomington, formerly of Lexington, died at 8:48 p.m., Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at Carle BroMenn Medical Center. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. , Monday, March 4 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Lexington, with Rev. Kyle Ronchetto officiating. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove Cemetary, LeRoy. Visitation will be at 4p.m. - 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Lexington. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Lexington or to the organization of the donors choice. Calvert, Johnson & Musselman Memorial Home, Lexington is in charge of the arrangements. Leila was born May 11, 1934 in Chenoa, the daughter of Lola and Alvin Rhoda. She married Lowell Carlson on Feb. 10, 1968 in Lexington. He died January 12, 2010. Surviving are sons William A. (Tina) Grimes and Robert A. (Lorene) Grimes, both of Bloomington and daughter Lisa (Henry) Scheltens of Normal. There are seven grandchildren Bryan (Jeanie Andrew) Grimes, Calli Rollins, Megan (Micheal) Cooper, Matthew Grimes, Sam (Isabel) Scheltens, Arianna and Abigail Scheltens. There are six great grandchildren Hudson and Foster Rollins, Aubrey, Aurora and Desmond Cooper, Henry Scheltens III. and one brother, Fred Rhoda of Chenoa. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Genevieve Colston, Roberta Garrett, Charles Rhoda. Leila was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Lexington. She was an active member of the choir and ladies guild. She was an avid Illinois Wesleyan men’s basketball fan, an NCHS softball fan and an avid supporter of her grandkids’ sports and activities. Her passion was working in the yard, gardening and her flowers.
