Larry D. Bonn, 69, of Blue Mound, IL passed away at 7:15 a.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2017 in his residence. \r\r\nA Celebration of Life service will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 17, 2017 at the Blue Mound Civic Center. He lived in many areas of central Illinois throughout his childhood. Upon returning to the Illinois area from Texas he met SueEllen Sams and were married on August 25, 1972, and they decided to raise their family in the Blue Mound community. He attended Meridian Community Church of God. Through the years, Larry has served as trustee on the Blue Mound Fire Department and on Bethel Church Board. He was the coach of the traveling baseball league and was leader for the Boy Scouts. Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing and teaching the next generation how to enjoy them both. He has helped sponsor two hunter safety courses for the Illinois DNR. He also served as a trustee of the Bethel Cemetery Board. \r\r\nAfter a few years of helping the former Highway Commissioner Clayton Allgood during the winter months, Larry was elected Pleasant View Township Highway Commissioner in 1985. This is the job he loved to do and was very active in the job and in township government. Larry was the co-founder of the Macon County Township Officials and also served as president. He served as director for Township Officials, director and past president of the Central Illinois Highway Commissioners and the director for the Township Officials of Illinois Highway Commissioner Division. He traveled to Washington D.C. twice through the years with township officials of Illinois. Larry was always willing to help anyone he could, especially the newly elected Highway Commissioner learn the job and township laws. Larry retired in May of 2015 and enjoyed his love of fishing and hunting with his grandchildren. \r\r\nLarry and SueEllen raised eight children in the Blue Mound community: Bub (Marv) Hadden of Stonington, IL, Lisa (Ken) Smith of Rochester, IL, Jeff (Teresa) Hadden of Blue Mound, IL, Roger Bonn of Florida, Lonny (Julie) Bonn of Blue Mound, IL, Kelly (Lori) Hadden of Blue Mound, IL, Randy Bonn of Alaska and Tracy Bonn of Blue Mound, IL; brothers: Delbert E. Bonn of Xenia, IL and John (Georgette) Bonn of Olney, IL; sister: Lori (Chuck) Siler of Effingham, IL; many grandchildren and great grandchildren. \r\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents and his two sisters-in-law: Eve Bonn and Shirley Bonn.
