Kenneth Wey

–

Bloomington, Illinois

Kenneth H. Wey July 19, 1943 – January 1 2026
Kenny passed away at The Arc in Normal on January 1, 2026, after a four-month struggle with multiple strokes.
Kenny was the son of Marjorie Gehrt Wey and Theodore Wey. He married Maurita Swearingen Wey on November 9, 1968. She survives. He is also survived by his daughter Christina Wey, grandson Braden Caige Holstein (the light of his life), two brothers Don Wey in Hudson, Dick Wey in Bloomington, and a sister Carolyn Yeager in Normal. Three brothers, one sister and two half-brothers preceded him in death.
He was a wonderful husband, dad and grandpa. He was also a poet, and a friend to many.
Kenny retired from the Town of Normal Public Works Department as Assistant Supervisor. His work was recognized by the United Private Employment Council of McLean County, thanking him for his service as a mentor to part-time high school students in an afternoon work skills development program.
In retirement he loved reading and writing poems and short stories. He published an anthology of his work titled, The Midwest and Why We Dream. He enjoyed playing golf which connected deeply with his love of nature. That appreciation of the natural world extended to his beautiful flower gardens and the wildlife they attracted. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandson.
We would like to thank all the great nurses at Carle-BroMenn, The Arc in Normal and their hospice team for the fine care they gave Kenny.
Kenny’s family was always first in his life, and they will deeply miss him.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
