Katrina Smail

Katrina Kay Smail, 54, of Mount Zion, IL passed away on February 10, 2025, surrounded by family.

Katrina was born May 22, 1970, in Harvey, IL the daughter of Arthur and Sharon (Chism) Porter of Champaign, IL. She married her loving husband Wesley Smail on January 23, 1993 in Moweaqua, IL. Katrina was the devoted mother to Kiara Smail of Chicago, IL and Dr. Selena Smail of Mt. Zion. She was a graduate of Eastern Illinois University where she studied business administration and fashion.

Katrina spent many years working in childcare, which she found to be her calling. Those who knew her will remember her positive candor, bubbly personality, and strong sense of personal style. Katrina also enjoyed spending time in nature with her beloved basset hound, Daisy Mae.

In addition to her parents and daughters, Katrina is survived by her brothers, Brian Porter (Sheila) of Oak Forest, IL, Alan Porter (Barb) of New Lenox, IL and families; father-in-law, Carroll Smail of Moweaqua, IL; sister-in-law, Andrea (Matt) Hart of Franklin, TN and family.
She is reunited with Wesley Smail who passed on June 26, 2005. She is also proceeded in death by her mother-in-law, Carol Ann Smail.

A funeral service will be held to honor Katrina’s life at 10:00 a.m., Monday February 17, 2025, at the First Christian Church, Moweaqua, IL. The family will receive friends for a visitation on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Calvert & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion. Burial will be in IOOF cemetery, Moweaqua. In-lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Katrina’s memory to Lorenzo’s House, which provides support to young families impacted by Alzheimer’s.
