Katheryn Shaw Obituary (1940

Katheryn A. Shaw, 83, beloved wife and mother, peacefully passed away while surrounded by family on December 8, 2023. Kathey was born in Stuart, Oklahoma on January 20, 1940, to Geary and Ina Lee Conover (Curlee). She married Paul D. Shaw on January 24, 1959 in Petaluma, California. He preceded her in death on February 18, 2022. She is also preceded in death by their infant son, David, her parents, and three siblings Ray, John and Wanda. Kathey is survived by children: Debbie Shaw (Giermann), Daryl Shaw, Douglas and Lisa Shaw (Fortney), and Don and Darla Parido (Shaw). Kathey is also survived by eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. During her life Kathey was primarily a homemaker. Once her children were grown she served as the Activities Director at Westminster Village in Bloomington, and later retired from State Farm Insurance after serving in a clerical role within the Audio Visual Department. Shortly after retirement Paul and Kathey relocated to Murray, Kentucky before returning to central Illinois in 2019. During her retirement Kathey and her husband Paul pursued their passion of travel. Favorite destinations included Alaska, Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland. One of her greatest travel adventures was white-water rafting in Alaska at the age of 63. Her hobbies included quilting and teaching quilting classes. Throughout her life Kathey (a.k.a. Ma Shaw) was a devoted Christian and spent many summers serving as a cook and counselor for church camps held at Camp Warren in Decatur, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to The Wounded Warrior Project. The Shaw family wishes to express their deepest thanks to the staff of OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, as well as the staff at McLean County Nursing Home for their care, attention, and kindness to Kathey. Visitation will be held on Saturday January 20, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. Immediately following will be a Celebration of Life service, with Reverend Dr. Kevin Summers officiating. All funeral activities will take place at Cross Pointe Church of God, 3101 Airport Rd., Bloomington, Illinois.
