Karen Hill

–

Bloomington, Illinois

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Karen. She left this world leaving behind a legacy of love, warmth and countless cherished memories.

Born February 16th, 1949, in Bloomington, IL, at an early age, Karen embodied kindness, determination, and a deep love for her family, friends, and community. In her early adulthood, Karen blossomed into a fiercely independent and compassionate woman. After graduating from Lincoln College, she passionately dedicated herself to early childhood education. Her creativity and kindness shone brightly as she built her career to later become a loving daycare owner. While this was her longtime passion, her favorite role was being a homemaker, devoted to her children, grandchildren, and family.

To her family, Karen was the heart and soul of every gathering, especially at Christmas time. She adored everything about the holiday season, from decorating her home with twinkling lights and handmade Christmas crafts to creating a magical atmosphere for her loved ones. Her Christmas traditions, including hosting Christmas Eve with dinner or hand-making gifts for her grandchildren will live on in the hearts of her family.
A gifted crafter, Karen spent countless hours knitting, sewing, and creating beautiful treasures for those she loved. Her handmade blankets, paper crafts and traditional crafts were more than just gifts; they were tokens of her love and care. She took pride in creating and sharing her craft to others. Her creative spirit will forever be remembered.

Karen had a natural gift for nurturing and teaching. She provided a safe, loving environment where children could grow, learn, and thrive at her daycare she owned for many years called “Granny’s Rocker Family Child Care “. Her days were filled with laughter, crafts, story time, and the gentle guidance she offered to little ones in her care. Karen had a way of making every child feel special and valued.

Karen had a deep passion for collecting Beanie Babies, turning her hobby into an adventure that took her across the country. She attended Beanie Baby conventions, where she met friends from all over the world who shared her enthusiasm. For her, it wasn’t just about the collectibles – it was about the joy of the hunt, the stories behind each piece, and the friendships she built along the way. Her collection was impressive, and everyone loved to admire it.

Her family was her greatest source of pride and joy. She adored her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to watch her family expand, grow and thrive, celebrating each milestone with pride and excitement. Her grandchildren lovingly referred to her as Nana and she embraced this role with an open heart and boundless energy. Her great-grandchildren were her delight, and she loved nothing more than watching them play and pass down her love and traditions.

She is survived by her loving family: her longtime companion Dennis Abbott, her children Kimberly (Chris) Hill-Smith, Craig (Colleen) Hill, Rebecca (Carlos) Flores, and Joshua Hill. Her grandchildren Kyle Elsea, Jenesis (Joseph) Hill, Megan King, Brandon King, Isabela Flores, Sydney Hill, Fabian Flores, and Nick Flores. Her great-grandchildren Wylder Cipolla and Juniper Cipolla. Her siblings Danny Hubbs and David Hubbs. Her loving furry companion, Ozzie. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Debbie.

A celebration of her extraordinary life will be held on February 15th 2025, at the White Oak Community Room, 3-6 PM. Friends and family are invited to join us in honoring her memories and sharing stories of how she touched their lives.

Karen will be remembered for her unconditional love, her unwavering dedication to the children in her care, and the joy she brought to her family and friends. Rest peacefully, sweet Nana. Your love, care, and creativity will forever guide us.
