Junior Everett Nihiser Obituary (1923 - 2013)

Junior Everett Nihiser 90, of Decatur passed away at 8:58 a.m., Monday December 16, 2013 in St. Mary's Hospital. A service to celebrate Junior's life will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, December 19, 2013, at Mt. Gilead Cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Navy. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 1:30 p.m. until service time at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion on Thursday afternoon. Memorials may be made to the Central Illinois Honor Flight. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.dawson-wikoff.com. Junior was born January 2, 1923 in Decatur, IL. He married Delores French on August 23, 1941. She preceded him in death on February 3, 1970. He served in the US. Navy during W.W. II on the U.S.S. War Hawk in the south Pacific. He retired after 48 years from A.E. Staley Company having been a shipping inspector. He was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church and the Ionic 312 Masonic Lodge. He was an avid deer hunter and outdoorsman. He enjoyed camping and fishing. He also was formerly involved with 4H rabbit programs at the Macon County fair grounds. Junior was able to participate in The Honor Flight for W.W. II veterans on Sept. 16, 2009. Surviving is his wife Nancy Robbins of Decatur; children: Carol Mendenhall of Decatur and Robert Nihiser of Tower Hill; stepchildren: Arlene Morgan and her husband Ed of Elwin, Gary Wright and his wife Toni of Decatur, and Regina Roth and her husband Casper of Johnson City, WI; six grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, twelve great-great grandchildren, seven step grandchildren, ten step great grandchildren and two step great-great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his first wife, parents, two sisters, three brothers, one granddaughter, one great grandson, and one great-great grandson.
