Bloomington, Illinois
Joseph “Joe” Henry Harrison, age 78, slipped from this world after a courageous battle with cancer, leaving a quiet echo of devotion, craftsmanship, and family love that won’t soon fade.
He was born in Fairbury, IL to Thomas & Mary Payne Harrison on July 16, 1947, as the youngest of six children. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings; Bill, Edgar, David, Mattie Sue & Thomas, a sister-in-law Juanita, two nephews, Randy and Tommy, and a niece Linda.
For over 58 years, he walked side-by-side with his wife, Janet, after the two first crossed paths at Southern Illinois University—a chance meeting that blossomed into a lifetime of partnership. Together they raised three children who inherited his steady spirit and warm-hearted grit: Janel Harrison (Mark Clauss) of Bloomington, Jared Harrison (Shelley) of Bloomington, and Jolene Galloway (Will) of Kildeer. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren: Cayla (Nick) Larkins, Courtney Clauss, Jake Harrison, Tallulah Clark, Johny Harrison, Jorgia Harrison, Mara Clauss, Jamison Clauss, Charlie Galloway and Jack Galloway. Also surviving are in-laws Von Harrison, Linda Traylor (Tony),and many nephews and nieces.
Joseph built more than homes—he built trust. As a custom home builder and longtime Coldwell Banker real estate agent, he spent more than 40 years shaping neighborhoods and guiding families toward the next chapter of their lives. His work carried his fingerprints: precision, pride, and quiet integrity.
He leaves behind the family he adored, the community he strengthened, and a legacy crafted board by board, relationship by relationship. May his memory stand as solidly as the homes he built.
A Memorial Service celebrating Joe’s life will be held on July 1, 2026. Wesley United Methodist Church will be the location with visitation from 10-12 and the service following. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Online condolences can be left at www.carmodyflynn.com
