John Mitchell Snyder II

John Mitchell Snyder II, 65, of Virden, IL, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2026, at his residence. John was born October 3, 1959, in Springfield, IL, the son of John Mitchell I and Helen Margaret (Brittin) Snyder. John graduated from Virden High School. After high school, he married Sheila Garst, who survives him.

Also surviving are his two sons, Cody (Brooke) Snyder of Girard, IL and John “Mitch” (Brandy) Snyder of Lincoln, IL; his grandchildren, Dodge, Rylee, and Raiden; his sister, Vauna (Jeff) Crowder of Kincaid, IL; his nephew, James Miller; his great-nephew, Cameron Cross. He was preceded in death by his parents.

John was a collector at heart and enjoyed finding antiques and treasurers. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially fishing. John spent many years on bowling leagues and playing in shuffleboard tournaments.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Airsman & Calvert Funeral Home in Virden, IL. Per John’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded by Airsman & Calvert Funeral Home following the visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the funeral home to help pay for cremation expenses.
