John Grimes

John Cleveland Grimes, 60, of Pana passed away Friday, November 21, 2025 in HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital, Shelbyville. He was born July 30, 1965 in Phoenix, AZ, son of Frank & Betty (Riggs) Grimes.
John was a graduate of Tower Hill High School. He was a self-employed drywall contractor. He enjoyed doing drywall and was a perfectionist. John loved riding motorcycles, fishing, rock hounding and canoeing. He also loved mushroom hunting, cooking and being outdoors. He was awesome with his grandsons and nieces & nephews, teaching and explaining things to them. His patience was impeccable. He would give the shirt off his back and would help do whatever he could. He was a jack of all trades and a master of a lot. If he didn’t know how to do something, he would always figure it out. His family was his everything! He always always made the best of everything.
John is survived by his children: Shelby Grimes, Pana, IL; Sheldon Grimes, Pana, IL; Saristen, Sarick, Santia, Sierra, & Sophia, all of Lincoln, IL, and Sederick of Ramsey, IL; grandsons: Klayton & Ronan; father, Frank Grimes; mother, Betty Grimes; siblings: Debi (Bernie) Grimes-Jantz, Martinsville, IL; Steve (Dawn) Grimes, Oconee, IL; Frankie (Christopher) Durham, Pana, IL. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, James Grimes and younger sister, Teresa Grimes.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
A memorial service for John will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor Leon Goff officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 3, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. until service time in the funeral home.
Memorials in John’s honor may be made to the family and will be accepted by McCracken-Dean Funeral Home who is assisting the family.
